No Shelter From Fear – IDP in Colombia

More than five million Colombians are internally displaced (IDP) due to the nearly 50-year long civil war between the government army, guerrilla rebels and the paramilitary groups. There are several reasons to why more and more Colombians have to flee their homes, but often the main cause is financial; paramilitary groups steal land to use it for production of cocaine, palm oil or for mining, either for themselves or for wealthy backers. Most of the ‘Desplazados’ end up living in slum areas in the extremely unsafe outskirts of Colombia’s larger cities.
